Bangkok is the capital of Thailand. It has been called Bangkok by foreigners, but the Thais call it Krungthep (meaning "City of Angels"). It is located in the lower reaches of the Chao Phraya delta in south-central Thailand, on the left bank of the Chao Phraya River as it meanders westward to form an arc, and together with Thonburi on the other side of the river, make up the Bangkok Metropolis.
