Considering the summer heat, it's hard to do it even if you know in your head that it's better to eat hot food no matter how hot it is. Yet it's hard to resist the temptation to eat cold food. I suspect that many people who come to Khlong Toei Market here in Bangkok feel the same way. There were people hawking ice cream at the market, targeting those who might be tempted to give in to such temptations. The man in this photo is one of them.

He was wearing a hat and a checkered shirt and had a wagon in the middle of the aisle selling ice cream. There were cups visible on the wagon, cones, and spoons for eating. When I stood in front of him, the man was just taking orders and scooping up ice cream.

As I wondered if he was going to put the ice cream on a cone or in a cup, the man exceeded my expectations and started slipping it into the bread. Ice cream in bread. It's called Itim Khanom Pang (ice cream with bread) in Thailand and it's not so rare. Come to think of it, in Vietnam, they sell French bread with ice cream in between. Maybe Southeast Asian people like the combination of bread and ice cream.
