In the Khlong Toei market, there were several round trays lined up in a row. All of them were loaded with seafood, with shrimp and crab standing out among them. It seemed that this store mainly dealt in shrimp and crabs. Some of the crabs were jet-black, while others had a slightly reddish tinge.
A woman wearing plastic gloves stood in front of a row of trays. She was adding crabs to the trays with her gloved hands. As I watched, I wondered why the woman was wearing gloves. Perhaps they don't want their hands to smell like crab, but wouldn't their long hair smell like crab if they just wore gloves? As long as I work in this workplace, it is difficult to get rid of the smell of crab.
Although Thailand has a strong image of shrimp, crabs are also sold at Khlong Toei market. It reminded me of a Thai dish called Poo Pad Pong Curry. Poo means crab, Pad means stir-fry, and Pong means powder. In other words, it is a curry with crab. The name of this dish, like Tom yum goong, is the name of the ingredients and the cooking method, so if you know Thai, it may be easy to imagine the dish from the name. However, as I did not understand Thai, all I could understand was that it was curry.
