Many locals visit the Khlong Toei market. Some of them are here to buy food for dinner, but most of them seem to be here to stock up for their business. The reason I thought so was because I saw few people walking around the market with shopping baskets hanging in their hands.
People who come to stock up buy large quantities of food. That is why there are people whose job it is to carry the food to the market. The man in the orange vest in the photo is one such transporter.
When I first arrived at the market, I had no idea what the people in orange vests were doing. I thought they were just market cleaners, although they were everywhere in the market. After all, the market aisles are so littered with trash that it would be nice to have someone who makes a living cleaning them.
However, the men in the vests were not cleaners. They were transporters working in the market. The transporters used large baskets to carry the food they purchased on behalf of the shoppers. The transporter in the photo was also happily carrying a large basket.
