The Chinatown street I was walking through was bustling with activity. Stores lined both sides of the street, displaying a variety of foodstuffs. Many shoppers were coming and going, not attracted by the smell of the food, but by the smell of the shops. The store in the photo is one of the stores along the street. The whole roasted chicken and fish were lined up on a table in front of the store, and a whole roasted chicken was hanging from the ceiling. The roasted whole chicken must be the main attraction of this restaurant.
At first glance, this store looks like a delicatessen that could be found anywhere in Bangkok. However, upon closer inspection, I found a pile of zongzi next to the fish. The zongzi wrapped in bamboo leaves remind me that this is not just a corner of Bangkok, but a corner of Chinatown.
An elderly woman stands across the table. She was probably the owner of the restaurant. She was watching the shoppers come and go between the roasted whole chicken hanging from the ceiling. She looked as if she would start spouting sales pitches as soon as a shopper stopped in her tracks.
