A woman was preparing to steam steamed meat buns at a delicatessen in the Kamo Mamoryo market. She was arranging the steamed buns neatly on a wooden stand. I guessed that the whole stand would be steamed. Each steamed bun was placed on a small sheet of paper, and the appearance was somewhat cute.
The woman was placing each one carefully with a soft expression on her face. There is a gentleness to her movements, as if she were taking care of her own child. The way she gently handled the steamed buns showed that it was more than just a task.
Each of the handmade buns has a slightly different shape. Some are snug, some are plump and round. Still, she carefully arranges them one by one without any concern. She was so careful in arranging them that it was as if she could see the care in their hearts, no matter how well they turned out. I don't know if she even thinks that “the worse the better, the cuter”, but there was no doubt in my mind that she cherished these buns with all her heart.
