When I came to the edge of the Myo Ma Market, I saw a man standing there with a loudspeaker in his hand. This man was one of the workers at the market. The product he was selling was a red and white USB cable. This was my second trip to Myanmar, but I had never seen a vendor selling USB cables before. This man and his colleague standing beyond him were the first USB cable peddlers I had ever seen.

As Myanmar becomes a democracy and its economy grows rapidly, the demand for USB cables must be increasing rapidly. Unfortunately, however, USB cables are not selling well here. Although the man was shouting his sales pitch through a bright red loudspeaker, just like the USB cables he was selling, there was no one who heard him and came close to him. The man's voice was being emptily sucked into the sky. The man seemed to be growing impatient and was wiping the sweat from his forehead with a buoyant face. A large number of USB cables were still on the man's shoulder.
