Not only are there no watering holes in the houses without running water, there may not even be a kitchen in the house. As I walked down an alleyway stretching between houses near the Oak Pho Su Station, I spotted a girl squatting on her front porch. A large wooden board was placed in front of her as a cutting board, and the girl with a small knife in her hand was chopping ingredients. This is not a food stall, but the front porch of a private house. There is no kitchen in the house, so they must have set up an impromptu cooking area. This little girl is preparing dinner in place of her mother, who is busy with other household chores.
On the cutting board, I see a green foodstuff. It looks like a green onion, but I couldn't quite make out what it is. In any case, the girl was chopping the ingredients without noticing the unexpected foreigner. Perhaps she was concentrating on finishing her preparations as quickly as possible. I was curious to know what kind of food people in Myanmar usually eat, but it seemed that the girl's cooking was not yet complete. I walked away without knowing what she was making, since she was still in the process of chopping the ingredients.
