The island of Taiwan is a bit further south than Okinawa, and is a place where fruits are plentiful. At markets, you can find a wide variety of fruits, some rare in Japan, and some considered high-end fruits in Japan lying around haphazardly. It is fun to see what kind of fruits are on display when you visit a fruit store. The Chenggong Market in Taipei also has a fruit store, so I checked out what kind of fruits they sell. As in other fruit stores, there were many different kinds of fruits on display.
While I was looking at the fruits, a female clerk spoke to me in Chinese. She didn't think I was a foreign tourist, but a local. Seeing my slightly bewildered face, she seemed to realize that I was a foreigner. The woman also smiled shyly. I thought I would stop talking to her at that point, but the she was not so resigned. She explained to me in Chinese which fruits she recommended. Overcome by her enthusiasm, I bought some mangoes and returned to the hotel.
