I was wandering around in Chenggong Market. This is a local market in Taipei that sells fresh food, sundries, and other daily necessities to the locals. Personally, I enjoy looking around markets that sell fresh food more than markets that sell general merchandise. When I look at industrial products, I often end up finding that they are made in China, but I feel that regional characteristics are more apparent in fresh foods. For example, the fruits sold in Taiwan are more varied than those in Japan, and there is a lineup of fruits that are rarely sold in Japan. Such things make me feel that I have come to a tropical country.
A variety of fruits were sold at the fruit shop in the photo. Along with bananas, watermelons, apples, and mangoes, they also sold guavas, which are rarely seen in Tokyo. Although the name "guava" is common and well known to the Japanese, I have never seen guava itself on display in a supermarket or fruit shop. Perhaps it is sold at high-end stores like Sembikiya, which I have no connection to.
And then a woman came to the fruit shop. She picked up some guava and began to carefully evaluate them. She seemed to be carefully assessing which ones were ready to eat.
