The young woman with her hair tied back worked silently at a fruit stand in the Yamuliao Market. Watermelons, pineapples, pomelos, and other colorful fruits lined the shelves. The variety and low prices were astonishing compared to Japanese markets. Unfortunately, however, I could not find any mangoes. Apparently, this is not the season for mangoes. That is inevitable.
There was a somewhat languid atmosphere throughout the market. Perhaps it was the heat, or perhaps it was the unique rhythm of the market. This woman seemed to be caught up in the laziness. Holding a pomelo in her hand, she was packing them one by one into a plastic bag with an expressionless face. Her movements are unobtrusive, and she does not seem to be in any particular hurry, nor does she show any sign of resting her hands. Although it was a repetition of a simple task, her handiwork was skilled.
