While Shanghai is developing at a tremendous pace, the neighborhoods I liked to walk in still had their old-fashioned streets. Low-rise houses lined both sides of the street, and people were relaxing by the side of the road. There were no well-to-do people to be seen, and the old Shanghai way of life was still there.
As I was walking down the alley, an older woman came from the other side. The older woman, wearing an apron, was walking with a grim look on her face and a pot in her hand. The smell of daily life was in the air. I wondered what was in the pot. Perhaps there was some lunch in it.
