Unlike Kobayashi Issa's haiku, I did not arrive at Zenko-ji unexpectedly at all. I don't live in a place where I could have come to Zenko-ji by chance. I came here of my own volition. It is quite a long way from Tokyo to Zenko-ji. If I had left it to chance, unlike Kobayashi Issa, I would never have made it.
After getting off the Shinkansen at Nagano Station, I quickly boarded a bus that I had checked out in advance and headed for Zenko-ji Temple. I took out my SUICA and touched it to the IC card reader by the entrance. But something was wrong. The IC card reader, which usually responds with a beep, does not respond at all. I wondered if the balance was insufficient, but when I checked the balance, it was still there. When I repeatedly touched the IC card reader, the driver announced a cruel message: 'Sir, you cannot use your traffic IC card on this bus.’
The Nagaden buses from Nagano Station to Zenko-ji Temple do not accept nationally-recognised transport system IC cards, including SUICA. It seems that the only card that can be used is the Nagano IC card KURURU. This is the first time I have heard of KURURU. The Nagaden buses are not tourist-friendly.
