As I was walking through Wan Chai, something made me stop in my tracks. Right in front of me was a butcher shop—small and unassuming, almost like a street stall—where bright red slabs of meat hung in plain sight. The way they were displayed, bold and unapologetic, made them seem like a symbol of the city’s raw vitality.
The harsh glow of fluorescent lights deepened the crimson of the meat. Bones still attached, thick cuts piled onto the counter—this was the world of the living, unabashed and unfiltered.
The butcher, dressed in a white apron, moved with practiced ease, carving through flesh without flourish or fanfare. There was nothing performative in his gestures. And yet, that quiet focus radiated a kind of grounded strength—an everyday power woven into the rhythm of the street.
