I watched the rain fall heavily at the edge of the market and it showed no sign of stopping. I decided to go back inside and explore the Kyauktan market again. The market had a roof so I wouldn't get wet, and I was sure the squall would stop in the meantime.
I wandered through the dimly lit aisles until I came to the store in the photo. Piles of garlic and onions were piled up at the storefront. The onions were light brown and the garlic was pure white, so the pile was neatly divided into two colors. It reminded me of the Indonesian flag, which is painted in red and white. However, I am now in Myanmar, not Indonesia.
Above the onions and garlic, an old-fashioned balance scale hung from the ceiling, behind which a young woman was working. She was doing something with her face down. The shelves behind her were filled with miscellaneous goods. The store seemed more like a general store than a grocery store, as it sold shampoo and canned goods.
