As you walk through the streets of Hong Kong, a sound gradually approaches — the soft screech of iron wheels against worn tracks. Moving slowly but steadily, the double-decker tram makes its way forward, weaving through the canyons of skyscrapers. For over a century, it has been running just like this.
On this particular day in Wan Chai, a tram appeared in deep green livery, the name “FINNIE” painted on its side. Through the windows, the silhouettes of passengers swayed gently, while the driver’s hands made only the subtlest movements. There was something about its measured tempo that carved out a rare moment of pause in this relentlessly fast-paced city.
Though the times have changed and the skyline has transformed, the tram’s rhythm feels stubbornly — and gently — unchanged, as if it’s holding on to a piece of the past with quiet dignity.
