Just standing in front of the fruit store with its colorful fruit seemed to sweeten the air

When people think of Hong Kong, their minds often jump to Michelin-starred restaurants and sleek dining spots tucked between towering skyscrapers. But take just one step off the main road, and the city reveals an entirely different face.

In the backstreets of Wan Chai, I came across a fruit stand that immediately caught my eye. A bright green-and-red sign read "MR FRESH," and in front of it, a vibrant display of fruits spilled out into the street—mangoes, dragon fruits, pomelos, lychees—all bursting with color, as if each piece was dancing in place.

Just standing there, I felt like the air itself had turned sweet. With every passing breeze came a soft wave of fruit-scented perfume, tickling the nose. The vendor’s voice rang out cheerfully—calling out prices, offering samples, packing bags with an easy laugh.

A message both simple and layered, just like the city it rolls through.
