I was at an open-air market in central Yangon. The market for fresh food was open on an ordinary street. The store in the photo is a stall at that market. There were many baskets in the store, and every basket was filled with onions and garlic. A man and a woman were sitting down, and the door of a building could be seen beyond the table on which the baskets were placed. This store was operating as if it were blocking the ground floor of an ordinary building on the street. It was not easy to enter the building under the circumstances. The door would probably not open because the table was in the way.
I am not sure if the man and woman sitting next to the baskets live in the building or not, but they seem to have given up trying to get in and out of the building. Perhaps they have made up their minds not to open the door until they have sold all the onions and garlic on the store shelves. If so, it will be some time before they can open the door. Every basket was piled high with items for sale, and there were no weights or anything on the plates of the old-fashioned balances.
