While wandering around the market, I came to a place where stores selling seafood were gathered. Although it is hard to imagine from the atmosphere around the market, Thanlyin is said to have the largest port in Myanmar. This is probably why the market is so well stocked with seafood. There were women sitting in all the stores, and they seemed to be bored. Some are engaged in small talk, while others are taking it easy.
The woman in the photo is the latter. She was staring off into the distance, not paying attention to me when I approached her. In front of the woman were plastic bags, and inside the bags were large quantities of dried shrimp, which is often used in Chinese cuisine. There must be many different kinds of dried shrimp. Each type of shrimp rice was displayed in its own bag.
Myanmar cuisine is also influenced by Chinese cuisine, so it is not surprising that dried shrimp is common in Myanmar. During my trip, I saw dried shrimp being sold in many places.
