I was walking near the Royal Palace in Bangkok. This place is a tourist attraction, and many tourists can be seen. The most conspicuous among them were tourists from China. Like Japanese group tourists, they were walking behind an attendant holding up a small flag, chattering away. Seeing such a scene makes me realize that China is a developing country. When I first visited Bangkok about 20 years ago, there were no Chinese group tourists.
While the Chinese tourists were heading to the Royal Palace, I was heading to the pier to cross the Chao Phraya River. The street I was walking on was lined with stores. Although I was near a tourist spot, the shops were not selling anything for tourists. What they were selling was dried fish. There was a large basket in front of the store, and a large quantity of dried fish was lined up. In the middle of the dried fish was a weighing scale, ready to be weighed at any time.
