The most popular breakfast in Taiwan is bean curd soup. It is pronounced "Doujiang" (豆漿). In layman's terms, it is warm soy milk. In Taiwan, it is a common breakfast to have this soy milk with fried bread called "Youtiao," and you can find stores selling soy milk all over the city. In order to soak up a little of the local atmosphere, I went to a store near Daan Station called Yong He Soy Milk King.
This store was very popular, and was constantly being visited by locals. I was a little intimidated by the steady stream of customers. When I go abroad, I often don't know what to order and how to order it. Seeing this, the clerk brought me a menu written in Japanese. This solved the problem of what to order. I filled out the order form and got in line just like the locals. Soon after, my turn came around and I handed the order form to the clerk, and my order was complete.
When the clerk receives my order form, he says something, and all the other clerks start preparing my order at the same time. The small kitchen was crowded with men preparing food.
