On Taipei's Dihua Street, a short side trip from the busy street lined with stores led me to an area lined with a number of snack stands. I am always impressed by the richness of Taiwan's food culture. Walking around town, one is bound to come across a store selling something. There is no shortage of food, and the variety is astonishing. There are rice dishes and noodles. All of them smell delicious, and I am sure they are delicious. The only problem was that there were so many dishes to choose from, but I only had one stomach.
I looked into the refreshment hall and saw two men sitting at a table. They were both facing the same direction, bending forward and silently eating something. There was no conversation, only their movements seemed to have a strange rhythm to them. Behind them stood the waiter. The waiter turned his back to them and seemed to be preparing something. The hands seemed busy, but overall, there was a quiet atmosphere in the restaurant.
