There were not many shoppers, and the Tha Tien market was quiet. The goods on display in the stores were waiting for the buyers to appear. Because of this, most of the people working there seemed to have no time to do anything. They were chatting with their colleagues, watching videos on their phones, or just passing the time in a daze. Time passes slowly here.
At one corner of the market, there was a dry goods store. There were several bags lined up in front of the store, all filled with dried shrimp. Dried shrimp is a seasoning. Thai cuisine, like Japanese cuisine, is particular about soup stock. Tom Yam Kung, which is often associated with spicy food, is made with dashi broth made by frying shrimp shells over a long period of time. It is such an important ingredient in Thai cuisine. It is true that the broth made from shrimp is delicious.
The bags of dried shrimps lined up in the store had different price tags stuck on them. Some were expensive, some were cheap. To me, they all look like the same dried shrimp, but to a casual observer, they all seem to be of different quality.
