Many shrimps were displayed on the trays in Khlong Toei Market

I thought of Thailand as one of the major export countries of Shrimps. And I thought Japan imported many shrimps from Thailand. Although Japan imports many shrimps from Thailand indeed, it was not the leading country.

According to the data in 2017, the leading country was Vietnam. My home country imported about 35,000 tons of shrimp from Vietnam. And India was in the next place. Thailand was the 5th and exported about 12,000 tons of shrimp to Japan.

Anyway, Thailand was one of the major producing countries of shrimp in the world. For a period of time, the aquafarming suffered loss by the virus. However, aquafarming is still active in this country. And many shrimps were sold in the market.

On the other hand, it is said the aquafarming of shrimp causes the destruction of nature. The large area of mangrove has been demolished for it in this country. Shrimps are delicious. And nature is precious at the same time. It is needed to make a balance.

About Khlong Toei Market

Khlong Toei Market is Bangkok's biggest fresh market. It is located on Rama IV Road near the Khlong Toei and Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre MRT stations in the Khlong Toei neighborhood. The market offers low prices on raw meat, seafood, farm produce, and a few other items (clothing, kitchenware, etc.) and is open daily from 6.00 am – 2.00 am. In January 2010 CNN listed it as one of the most authentic markets in Bangkok as well as a place to avoid when hung over.
