In the Kanoman market, where there are stores selling bananas and stores selling seafood, there are of course stores selling meat. The butcher shop, which was not on the busy main street but in a deserted building, was quietly operating under a bare light bulb.
Various things were placed on the large counter. As well as the large chunks of meat for sale, there was a cutting board made of a log. Next to the cutting board, there were several kitchen knives and a black plastic bag to hold the meat. There was also a scale for weighing the meat. Here, the meat is weighed not with an electronic scale, but with an old-fashioned weight. Next to the scales were a number of differently shaped weights, just like those used in science experiments at school.
I wanted to see the butcher weighing the meat, but the meat had just been sold. The butcher lady didn't even bother to cut the meat, she was too busy chatting with the woman who had just bought it.
