A temple suddenly appeared on a quiet residential street. It was a temple called Mazueru Tianhou Temple. It was a temple called Mazulou Tianhou Temple, which stood out conspicuously among the surrounding houses. However, when we visited the temple, there were no worshippers in sight, and a sense of quietness was in the air. Despite its quiet atmosphere, this temple is said to have a long history. It is said to have been founded in 1755. Indeed, a close inspection of the temple revealed that a great deal of money was spent on the decoration of the pillars and roof.
What particularly caught my eye was its roof. As I raised my eyes, I saw countless statues lining the roof. It is not unusual for temples around here to have dragons on their roofs. But the roof of this temple goes beyond that. Next to the dragons, monkeys, elephants, and even human statues are mixed in, making for a very lively scene. The variety was as if the temple itself were spinning a tale.
The expressions and movements of the statues one by one showed the meticulous handiwork of the craftsmen. On the roof of the historic temple, these statues must have been watching over the place for a long time. The contrast between the quietness of the temple, which is tucked away in a residential area, and the liveliness of its roof, created a mysterious charm.
