Ginza has a fashionable image, and many of its buildings seem to be unique and fashionable. For example, the Hermes Ginza store is covered with thick glass. There is also the PIAS Ginza Building, which twists and stretches toward the sky, and the Ginza Matrix Building, which looks as if it has been punched through, showing off its unique appearance.

In such Ginza, the Tokyo Ginza Shiseido Building in 8-chome is another fashionable building. Although the shape of the building itself may not be as unique as the Hermes Ginza Store or the PIAS Ginza Building, the bright red exterior walls have the power to appeal to people walking along Ginza-dori. While there are many buildings with low color saturation, a building painted in primary colors stands out.

The location of this building is where Shiseido was founded. Arinobu Fukuhara opened a dispensing pharmacy here in 1872, and that was the beginning of Shiseido. It is said that the name Shiseido was taken from a passage in the Chinese classic I Ching. Many things are named after Chinese literature, such as Korakuen and Shiseido. For a long time, a good knowledge of Chinese literature was an important part of Japanese culture. Soseki Natsume, one of Japan's most famous writers, even took his pen name from the Chinese phrase "Shùshízhěnliú."
