The Lungshan Temple here is the oldest temple in Taipei. Built in the Chinese style, the temple is not only a tourist attraction, but is also widely worshipped by the locals. No matter when you visit, the temple grounds are always filled with people seeking blessings from the gods.
The woman in the red shirt in the photo is one of those who came to pray for blessings. Like many of the visitors, she was praying earnestly with her hands together. Upon closer inspection, the woman was holding a plastic bag as she prayed. It was as if she had come to visit the temple while shopping.
Taiwanese people visit temples more casually than Japanese. It seems to be the style of Taiwanese people to "go to a temple for a visit" when they have worries or doubts about work, love, or health. Although it is hard to believe that just by visiting a temple, one can get rid of one's worries, visiting a temple seems to have become an integral part of daily life. I felt that Taiwanese people consider God to be closer to them than Japanese people do.
