Incense sticks were burning in a large incense burner placed in the precincts of Lungshan Temple in Taipei. I could also see the flickering flame. Although this is not a Buddhist temple, the practice of offering incense when visiting a temple is the same as that of Buddhist temples in Japan. The practice of burning incense seems to have originated in ancient India.
I saw a couple behind the incense burner. They were standing close together in front of the altar. What are they praying for at this temple, which enshrines more than 100 deities, including Guan Yin, Confucius, Emperor Guan, and Mazu? With such a large number of deities, it must be possible to make almost any kind of wish.
