There are several places to pray in the narrow Lungshan Temple. There are many gods here, and worshippers visit them here and there. Since each god has different benefits, people who are seeking multiple benefits are likely to visit the temple in large numbers. It must be hard work if one visits the shrine earnestly.
There were some people sitting down to rest in the temple grounds, perhaps tired from praying. The two women in the photo were also sitting on the side of the aisle at the end of the temple grounds, perhaps tired from the visit. But they were not just resting. They were both looking at something. One was reading a book that appeared to be a scripture, and was rolling the pages, while the other had a tablet in her hand and was scrolling through the pages with her fingers.
The woman with the tablet may have been reading an e-book version of the scripture. This is the 21st century. It is no surprise that ancient scriptures have been converted into e-books. Sooner or later, sutras written on paper may become such a rarity that they are displayed in museums. As a result, people will not be able to read even sutras when the power goes out.
