There were a lot of people on the grounds of Lungshan Temple. This is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Taipei, and a lot of tourists like me visit here. It's even introduced in a Japanese book on Taiwan as the most important power spot in Taiwan. Still, if you look around the temple grounds, there are far more local worshippers than tourists. This temple is not only a tourist attraction, but also a very popular temple among the locals. Seeing the many people who come to worship here, you can feel that the gods enshrined in this temple are still very much alive and not just a tourist attraction. The faces of the local worshippers were serious, unlike mine when I visited on a sightseeing trip.
Most of them are praying at one of the many altars on the temple grounds, but some are sitting on the edge of the grounds. They are like the men in this photo. All these people have books in their hands. When I glanced at a page, I saw that something was written in Chinese characters. I didn't know what it was about, but it was probably some kind of scripture. These people were sitting on the temple grounds, quietly reading the sutras.
