I came back to the Kanoman market in Cirebon. This market has two buildings, and the road between them is the main street. There were many stores lined up on both sides, and shoppers were leisurely doing their shopping. I walked past the stores along the main street and went into the building on the west side.
Only the main street seemed to be crowded with shoppers, and the inside of the building was dimly lit and had a peaceful atmosphere. The inside of the building has an atrium, which is designed to accommodate many stores, but contrary to the designer's intention, it was not used in that way. Although there were some stores open for business, the hustle and bustle of the market was nowhere to be found.
I walked down a dimly lit corridor in the market. Many people were sleeping, probably because there was not much work to be done in the market without the hustle and bustle. The man in this photo was one of them, sleeping in a dimly lit corner of the market. He was sleeping on a large cushion laid on top of straw scraps. Looking at the straw scraps, it seems that this section of the market is not a store, but a place to store live livestock. The man was sleeping soundly, without a hint of concern for the feces and urine that might be left behind in such a place.
