The wide street where the Ningxia Night Market was held was filled with the excitement of people. However, once one entered a side street, the hustle and bustle disappeared like a lie, and the surrounding area was dim and quiet. The shutters of all the stores were closed, and there were hardly any pedestrians. If I had not known that I was right next to the brightly lit night market, I would have hesitated to continue walking. There was an air of foreboding in the air.
As I was making my way along the night street, I saw a man walking toward me from the other side. His figure was silhouetted in the darkness, a plastic bag hanging in one hand. He must have bought some food at the night market. And on the other hand, he held an umbrella. The sky was clear, so why was he carrying an umbrella? Such a question crossed my mind.
However, that thought was short-lived. In the light of the street lamp, the man's shadow grew long and thrust toward me like a blade. The sharpness of the shadow left an unspoken uneasiness in my heart.
