The main street running through the center of Bago was empty. The flow of traffic was smooth, with cars driving at whatever speed they desired. Perhaps because there was not so much traffic, there were no traffic lights. Therefore, no matter how empty the street was, it was difficult to cross the boulevard. I had to cross the street in between the cars running on the street. At first, I thought that the locals must be used to crossing the street under such conditions since they cross it every day. However, I found that this was not the case. Most of them are struggling to find the right moment to cross the street, just like me.
The couple in the photo also had a hard time crossing. They were taking small steps from the edge of the road toward the center, but the flow of cars was not interrupted. The woman holding a banana and the man wearing a hat were both looking in the same direction, waiting for the right moment to cross.
Incidentally, despite being a British colony, Myanmar is a right-of-way country. It is said that when Myanmar gained independence from the British, they changed the traffic from the left side to the right side.
