Dihua Street is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Taipei. This area is known as a wholesale district, and the streets are lined with various wholesale stores. Since it is a tourist attraction, many of the stores also offer retail services.
On the sidewalk in front of a candy shop I passed by were several large boxes lined up. The boxes were filled to the brim with colorful sweets. A woman with plastic bags in her hands stopped in front of the box in front of her. She is staring at the box. Apparently, she was considering whether she should buy it or not.
With so many different kinds of snacks on display, it would not be easy to decide which one to buy. But if you think about it, the time spent pondering what to buy is probably more blissful than the time spent actually picking it up and eating it. Having many choices means that there is the pleasure of getting lost. And the small sense of fulfillment that comes from being lost may be one of life's small luxuries.
