As one ascends the JR Yokohama Tower to the upper floors, one finally arrives at the rooftop garden named "Umisora Deck". Although it is not as high as the rooftop bars that are popular in Bangkok, as it is only a 12-story building, the rooftop is a pleasant place to be without tall buildings around. Benches are set up so that you can relax and spend time under the blue sky.
Wandering around the Umisora Deck, I noticed an object placed a little higher than the surrounding area. It is an object that has a considerable presence. It is an object with the word "YOKOHAMA" written on it using eight three-dimensional letters of the alphabet.
When I think of an object composed only of letters of the alphabet, I think of Robert Indiana's LOVE, which is also located in Shinjuku. However, the only thing that is the same is that it is composed only of letters of the alphabet, and the taste is quite different. YOKOHAMA on the Umisora Deck is more like a notice than an artwork. It is as if it is telling those who have no sense of direction that this is Yokohama. However, the object stands on the rooftop of a building directly above Yokohama Station. There must be few people who do not realize that they are in Yokohama until they see this object. It is a mysterious object that is neither cool nor photogenic.
