Riding the slow-moving Choshi Electric Railway, I arrived at a station called Tokawa. Although the retro station building was intriguing, the station was surrounded by nothing but rows of houses. It was a terminal station that seemed to have been left behind by the times. The reason the tracks end at such a place is simple: this is the tip of the Choshi Peninsula. Beyond this point, there is nothing but the Pacific Ocean.
Walking down the narrow road leading from the front of the station, you will soon find yourself going downhill, and as gravity pulls you down, the sea comes into view and the Tokawa fishing port comes into view. Although completely overshadowed by Choshi Fishing Port, which boasts one of the highest fish catches in Japan, Tokawa Fishing Port is also a historic fishing port that has been in existence since the mid-1600s. When I approached the port to take a stroll, all I could see were warnings posted everywhere and barricades set up to keep people out of the harbor grounds.
According to the warnings, the port is off-limits to all but authorized personnel. I had no intention of poaching, I just wanted to explore the seaside, but as I was walking along the edge of the harbor, a motorcycle came running from behind the harbor. It must have been someone related to the port, since he was allowed to go inside. Beyond the motorcycle was blue sky and blue ocean.
