What do people talk about when they sit down in front of the waves that come and go again and again? They might talk about something out of the ordinary, or they might talk about their daily lives, which seem unchanging in their monotony. Or they may be swallowed up by the sound of the waves, and not be able to talk about anything at all. What is certain is that the waves will never cease to come. The waves are always waiting for someone to speak.

As I was walking along Yuigahama beach in Kamakura, two women were sitting side by side on the beach by the waves. They were both facing the sea, and the ocean spread out beyond their gazes. There was no one around them, and windsurfing sails floated in the distance offshore as if they were from another world. The only sounds that interrupted their conversation were the waves and the wind. It is the perfect setting for a sit-down talk.

The stage is set, and from a third party's point of view, it seems as if all that is left to do is to start talking, but it seems as if that is not the case, and the woman on the left is checking her makeup in a compact mirror.
