Wat Saket is a Buddhist temple built on a hilltop about 80 meters high in Bangkok. There are no tall buildings around it, so it stands out enough to be useful as a landmark. However, despite its presence, it is a little difficult to find the entrance. I had to go around the hill until I reached the entrance. The hill is much larger than I expected.
After paying the entrance fee, all I had to do was climb the stairs. There are no escalators or elevators here, so you have to climb the 350 or so steps on your own to reach the golden stupa at the top of the hill. I climbed the spiral staircases on the side of the hill one by one. The sky was blue. A pair of women were walking in front of me. Both were dressed in mourning clothes. They were probably in mourning for King Rama IX. Even so, the parasols they both held in their hands were brightly colored. The woman in jet-black mourning clothes was walking up the red stairs with a red and pink umbrella in her hand. The contrast was a bit beautiful.
