Walking down the straight and dimly lit aisles of the Xinfu Market, one sees a few stores with their shutters down here and there. I don't know if they are closed because they are closed for holidays or if they have already stopped doing business. It looks somewhat like a shuttered shopping street. Nevertheless, this market was not without vitality. Many locals come to the stores that are open to shop and hang out in front of the stores to make small talk.
Some stores in Xinfu Market sell fresh food, while others sell clothing and other daily necessities. Whichever store you choose, the smell of everyday life is in the air. There are no stores selling souvenirs for tourists here. Perhaps that is why no one approached me as a foreigner when I was walking around.
