As I walked through Kyauktan, the area around me became completely residential. All that stands on either side of the wide street are houses. I walked through the houses without any hesitation. Then a light rain began to fall. Looking for a place nearby to take shelter from the rain, I found a greengrocer's shop and went into its eaves.
A woman was working there. The woman seemed startled by the sudden appearance of a foreigner, and asked me many questions as I began to shelter from the rain under the eaves of the roof. She was speaking Burmese, so I couldn't understand her very well, but I guessed she was asking me what country I was from and what I was doing here in this residential area.
As I was carrying on the conversation with gestures, my eyes suddenly met those of a father and son standing next to the greengrocer. Like the female owner of the grocery store, this father and son also seemed to be interested in foreign tourists. They were not talking to me, but both of them were looking at me.
