As I walked around, I returned again to the market that stands by the river. This is the busiest place in the center of Kyauktan and a good place to observe the locals. As I wandered around inside, I found a staircase to the second floor and proceeded upstairs.
On the second floor, there was an outer corridor that led straight up to a row of stores. Fishing nets hung from the roof. The stores lined up here seemed to be those that dealt in fishing nets. The young man in the red shirt in the photo was one of the workers there. When he noticed my sudden appearance, he smiled shyly at me.
He was selling a large number of fishing nets. Even though Kyauktan is a fishing town, fishing nets are not sold that often. I have a feeling that once a fisherman buys a fishing net, he will not buy another one for the time being. Or perhaps, although Kyauktan is famous for its temple floating in the river in the travel guide, it is famous for fishing net production from an industrial point of view.
