I stopped at an outside corridor on the second floor of the Kyauktan market and watched the traffic. I could see trucks coming to deliver goods, and I could also see people walking to the market to do their shopping. The place where I was standing was deserted, but this market was bustling as the center of local people's lives.
After a while, I felt the presence of someone. A young man was walking toward me from across the hall. Although there are many precious metal dealers in this area, the man did not look like he was here to buy precious metals. He was a peddler. He was selling disposable razors in the market.
Unlike Bangladesh, the country's neighbor to the west, it is not common for men to wear beards here. For men, shaving is a necessity to keep up appearances. As the man approached me, he showed me a disposable razor in his hand and began to make a sales pitch to me. He probably said something like, "This razor is the sharpest I've ever seen!" He must have said something like that.
