I was walking along the outer corridor of the second floor of a market in Kyauktan, where, unlike the first floor, the stores were separated from each other by walls, each like a room. Curious to see what they were selling, I peeked inside and saw fishing nets hanging from the ceiling in front of every store. This was a cluster of stores dealing in fishing nets.
People were standing in the hallway, all tending to their fishing nets. I don't know how many fishermen come here to buy nets, but with so many nets lined up, it seems like they could handle a large demand.
The man in the photo, wearing a longyi, was also spreading out a fishing net by hand to see how it was finished. Although he was not looking at me, he knew that I was standing very close to him and pointing my camera at him. The man was wryly smiling a bit as he moved his hand. When I looked closely at the fishing net the man had spread out, I saw that the thread was crumpled in the area where the man had spread it out. I couldn't tell if he was bitterly smiling because of the problem or because I was pointing a camera at him.
