The building in the photo is 'Great Buddha Hall'. It was the largest wooden building in the world until recently. It was originally built in 728 and the present hall was built in 1691. Because it was made with woods, it was burned to the ground sometimes.
Although the hall was rebuilt, the bronze statue of the Buddha Vairocana which is placed inside was not burnt in the long history. It was completed in 752.
