Although I had been here before, as I proceeded down the approach to the temple, I came upon a large gate that I had never seen before. I had the impression that the temple called Denzu-in in Koishikawa was a modest temple despite being the family temple of the Tokugawa Shoguns, but this gate was not modest at all. If anything, the gate belongs to the splendid category.
I found out that the gate was newly built; it was rebuilt in 2012 after being destroyed by fire in an air raid in 1945. I had been to Denzu-in before, in 2005, before this big gate was rebuilt. No wonder I had never seen it before.
After passing through the gate, I walked through the temple grounds and soon arrived at the large main hall. The main hall is as big as the big gate. As I stopped to look at the main hall, a young girl came out from inside. A woman who looked like her mother appeared next, picked up the girl, and disappeared back into the main hall. I am not sure, but it may have been the moment when the little girl tried to escape but failed to do so.
