There was an escalator. Even when I was watching it, the escalator remained still, not moving an inch. However, once a person comes to the escalator and tries to get on, the escalator starts moving with a nonchalant look on its face. It seems that the escalators only move when they are needed. They don't care a bit about the people who are just watching from afar.
After all the passengers had disembarked and walked away, the escalator stopped moving again and waited patiently for the next user to arrive.
