The design, which dares to avoid straight lines, makes you feel as if you have wandered into some other world just by walking around the theater

Interior of National Taichung Theater

Standing on the landing of a staircase that opens into a vast atrium, I looked down to see people moving below like part of a grand stage set. In the Taichung National Theater, even the architecture feels like a performance in itself.

The handrails curve in soft arcs, lined with red carpet, while the absence of sharp angles in the design extends to the walls and ceiling. As you walk through the building, it's easy to feel as if you've stepped into another world—one shaped not by rigid blueprints, but by movement and flow.

These curves aren’t just decorative. They breathe rhythm into the space, creating a sense of motion within stillness. Despite being made of concrete and steel, the building feels alive. Like music or dance, it’s something you don’t just see—you feel it in your body.
