Cricket is not just a sport in India; the game can be played on a street corner or in a back alley, all you need is a bat and a ball and the game is on

When I stepped into a small open space beside the housing complex, the air carried a faint mix of dust and warmth. Looking up, I saw the beige, weathered walls of the building lined with countless windows, catching the afternoon light head-on.

Down below, a few young men were chasing a cricket ball. The space wasn’t exactly spacious—just enough to dart between motorbikes parked at angles—but they moved with ease and agility. In India, cricket isn’t just a sport. It’s a part of life. As long as there’s a bat and ball, a game can spring to life on a street corner or in an alleyway. Cricket lives not only on TV, but also in these everyday gaps.

A hair salon poster on the wall fluttered in the breeze. The men in the photos posed with intensity, as if they belonged to another world. But the boys here, with their sweat and breath and laughter, felt far more real—and far closer.
