Leaving Bogyoke Aung San Market, I crossed the corridor back to New Bogyoke Aung San Market. As the name suggests, New Bogyoke Aung San Market is the newer of the two markets, and I don't think there was a New Bogyoke Aung San Market when I came to Yangon eight years ago.
Despite the similar names, the two markets have different atmospheres. While the Bogyoke Aung San Market is full of stores selling souvenirs for tourists, the New Bogyoke Aung San Market is more for locals. Therefore, when you walk around New Bogyoke Aung San Market, you will not be approached by touts. Even if you have a camera, not many people show interest in you. It is a perfect situation for people-watching.
The young woman in the photo was no exception. Even when I stopped directly in front of her, she did not look at me. It was as if she did not notice me. She was staring at the screen of her smartphone on her desk. She must have been watching an interesting video.
